THƏ L∆B ØF ∆NØM∆LIƏS
THƏ L∆B ØF ∆NØM∆LIƏS began as a site-specific AI art gallery on Instagram — a stream of AI-generated portraits inhabiting the same platform built to erase them. Faces disfigured, scarred, diseased, in pain. Images that social media algorithms read as violations. Community standards as aesthetic censorship: the platform filters out ugliness, filters out suffering, filters out everything that doesn't resolve into something comfortable to consume.
The short circuit was the point. Open the feed and find a face that shouldn't be there by the platform's own logic. That friction — between what the algorithm permits and what the image insists on showing — is where the work lives.
The AI here is not a beauty tool. It generates what beauty tools are designed to suppress. This is the counter-tendency: if AI is deployed as an aesthetic filter, as an instrument of idealisation, as a machine that smooths and corrects and erases the complexity of physical and emotional reality — then using AI to produce the disfigured, the suffering, the anomalous is a political act. The idealisation of life is the idealisation of beauty. Both are reductions. Both deny that pain is real and that the body carries it visibly, loudly, without asking permission.
From this laboratory, other projects evolved. [∆PP∆RƏNT] B0DY ∆RT and PRƏ TTY F∆CƏS grew out of the same research and exist now as independent series. THƏ L∆B ØF ∆NØM∆LIƏS continues as the live space where that research happens — the same Instagram gallery, now expanded to host The Ordinary Body, F0T0GEN/A, and ongoing series as they develop. Everything passes through here.
The disembodiment of every proportion. The negation of every perfection.
